This film collaboration with The Griffyn Ensemble director, Michael Sollis, is an interpretation of 'Ara' a short music piece of 8 minutes. Inspired by the Southern Sky constellation Ara itself, this film recounts the importance of remaining conscious while entering the dream world to become lucid.

This film received the Recommendation Award at the 2024 SQ Uni Biennale Award (Aus) and was selected for the Aotearoa Poetry Festival (NZ). It was the finalist of the 2023 Issy Biennale (Fr), and the 2024 Estivales Sceaux(Fr).

Dream Journal, pearl embroidery on French night gown

Since 2021, Sofie embroiders a dress with her nightly dreams. Alongside her paper journal, this dress celebrates the visions and wisdoms she receives every night.

This textile work was on display as part of Naarm Textile Collective exhibition in 2023 at Fourty Five Downstairs Gallery in Melbourne Victoria Australia

Born in France, Sofie Dieu’s first encounter with art was through church. With a penchant for ritual and spirituality, the artist is best known for her fragile, sombre, and sometimes violent ink paintings and textile works.

Poetic and humanist, her practice draws on her journeys to China and Australia. She explores how identity and memory fluctuate according to their immediate environment. Landscapes, people, secrecy, healing, and the dichotomy between light and darkness are some of her recurring themes.

Multi-art prizes and award finalist, her work was included in the Sydney North Art Prize, Waterhouse Natural Science prize and the Contemporary Art Award amongst others. In 2016, she worked on the Camperdown Cemetery installation for Sydney Biennale. In 2017, her work will be shown during Vivid and Mental Health Month in Sydney.
